There are numerous threads on here with people asking for recommendations for web hosts and everyone has their own opinion based on personal experiences.
You will need to consider what you want from your website -- Do you want eCommerce or just a way of advertising with sales done offline?
- Do you want a bespoke website or are you happy with Wordpress or similar?
- Who is going to design and build the site for you - do you have the skills to do it yourself?
One bit of advice I can give you straight away though is - if you don't want to be ripped off avoid getting a site from yell.com0 -
what is the best site on line to open a web site
The best web host? The best pre-made templates? The best WYSIWYG editor? The best CMS? The best web designer?
You don't just use a site to "open a web site".
You can use editing software to code your own site. You can buy or obtain free pre-made templates. You can open an account with popular CMS providers like WordPress. You can hire a web designer to do most or all of the above for you. And you can buy a hosting package from a web host (or via a third-party, like a web designer).
What do you really need/want? And "best" really depends on circumstances. What is best for one person is not necessarily best for everyone.0 -
If you want cheap to run easy to manage and easy to set up ecommerce site try EKM powershop.
Its £65 to set up then starts at £20 per month - all plus vat.
You choose from their templates and add your own logo and images and away you go. Its relatively simple to use and has free phone help along with a great forum.
Yes you can get cheaper and set up Word press etc but for an all singing site I don't think you can beat it. Plus they keep bringing out updates such as a free mobile friendly upgrade we recently had.
And no I don't work for them I use it for my own bricks and mortar shop.
best of luck0 -
One other thing as its a new business I would follow this route rather than spend £100s or £1,000s on a web site to find the business model does not work out.
Thing is its less than £100 and some graft by yourself to get a great looking web site set up. that's one of the main things that attracted me in the first place, low start up costs.0 -
Wondering anyone could help me also.
I am looking for one of these website builders for site I want to start. I want to have a comparison feature so i can list companies with links to their sites.
I have seen wordpress and their plugins, but would rather just pay for a ready made one. Any such sites ?0 -
I will say I started my website from nothing using wordpress and its rather good these days. From there I have built a website for a local garage which there are happy with.
It really isn't as hard as you would think to get one going.
I am happy to let fellow MSE'ers on my server to have a go at building one all you need to do is buy a domain name. If you can't get along with it nothing lost, if you do get along with it we can move it to your own server at a later date.Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017

That's a very kind offer but if all anyone wants to do is play around with WordPress code, they might as well do a local install. All you need is MAMP (or WAMP, etc) and the appropriate (free) files.
WordPress has a lovely online manual, which should cover all the install questions: http://codex.wordpress.org/
You don't need hosting or domains to just play with code!0
