Bank fee just for having a current account?

Hi all.
I'm hoping someone can help me. My girlfriend has an account with HSBC and we have recently made a joint account with Santander. She has been paying £13 per month for the account! She received no benefits from this, no overdraft or insurance or anything of the like. I told her it's scandalous and to close it to which she was charged another £13. She's had it for a few years so has paid them a fair amount.
I just wanted to know if there is anything we can do about it? Any advice would be welcome.
Thanks.

The HSBC account.. Ive just never heard of having to pay for a basic card account.0

I rather doubt it was a basic card account. Maybe that's how she treated it but it just doesn't sound right
Or maybe HSBC misdesignated the account0 -
After you saying that i just went through all her old bank letters. It appears she had family travel insurance!! Now i dont know who's worse them or her

Although at the time she was single no kids. She is also Polish so i think they still pulled a fast 1. Its definitely sold wrongly but i guess i dont have an argument. Banks!!0 -

Did she use the travel insurance, if she didn't then she has a case. Write down the dates when the charges started and for how long, contact HSBC, either letter or telephone and explain that she didn't know about the 'benefits' they will then look into it, they have to get back to within 8 weeks, if they don't you can then take it to the financial ombudsman.0 -

There are plenty of personal bank account providers that do not charge a monthly fee ... and those providers actually include HSBC and Santander
