Does no service void warantee?

However, we have still only driven 8000 miles and don't think the filters need changing yet.
What do you base this on - engineering knowledge, experience, or just a vague 'feeling' that it isn't necessary?
Service items on a car all deteriorate. Some deteriorate with miles driven (brake pads), some with time (brake fluid), and some a mixture of both. Oil breaks down with use, but also absorbs water and degrades even if the car is sitting in the garage. An annual oil and filter change is probably the easiest and most cost-effective way of keeping a car running properly. That's why manufacturers generally specify ~12,000 miles or 12 months, which ever comes first - in other words, annually at a minimum, no matter the car is used for.
I do all my own servicing on my bikes, and no garage makes a penny out of me for servicing, and yet I wouldn't miss a scheduled oil and filter change for anything, unless I was planning to scrap it when it finally died. Shop around for a better deal by all means, but get it done.If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -
Bought car 2 yrs ago. The 3 yr warantee said we had to have it serviced at either 1 yr or 12000 miles. We don't drive long distances so the first service was due at 1 yr. all they did was check levels of oil and fluids. The 2 nd yr service is now due at which they change the filters. However, we have still only driven 8000 miles and don't think the filters need changing yet. Of course, they want £320 for doing this and we are reluctant to pay. With 1 yr left on the warantee, if we don't have it serviced, will it void the warantee.. I'm of the mind that if there was a serious problem with the car, it should be guaranteed whether we have it serviced or not.
A car that does low mileage should be serviced properly more often...... Low mileage is the worst thing for your vehicle. It's actually worse in many ways than driving it like a Kevin.
Do I need to justify this?
Ok, when you start you car from cold, the ECU increases the amount of fuel into the engine for a few minutes (to get it started and stop it stalling), this fuel then normally burns off gradually once operating temp is reached. If you do low mileage this fuel sticks around and then when you stop it leaks down past the piston rings into your engine oil (known as bore wash), this dilutes and ruins the engine oil, which in turn massively increases engine wear.
This whole idea that low mileage means you don't need it serviced, is just ridiculous..... And people wonder why I won't buy a car that's "one lady owner" or very low mileage.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Not having the service done will not automatically void the warranty, but they will turn down a claim for anything that would have been touched/checked during the service.
Also as has been said, consider the effect on the value of the car with an incomplete service history - probably far more than £300?I am a mortgage adviser. You should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. A car is probably the most complex machine any of us own: A couple of tonnes of steel, burning explosive fuel, lubricated by oil pumped by pumps driven by belts, cooled by water, stopped by friction materials acted on by hydraulic pistons, forces at the road contained by fragile rubber tyres, all of this monitored, checked, and adjusted by computers and sensors. Carrying loved ones, travelling up to 70mph come rain, wind or shine....
And you expect this object to magically work, denied any kind of maintainence, fresh fluids, filters or even a cursory check once a YEAR as a minimum?
Not only that, but you expect someone else to pick up the tab for your negligence in checking and maintaining even the basics?0 -

Remember , under law and the terms of your vehicle warrenty you do not have to get the work done at a dealership. You are perfectly within your right to get the service done at a local independent garage and providing he uses approved fluids and parts your warrenty will not be affectedYou scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0

Ok I get the message. Few points though boys. Hubby drives the car, not me. We don't intend to sell it soon, we also have another Nissan, 10 yrs old, still going strong. We have that one serviced every year at local garage and oil is changed. As I said, hubby is spot on with keeping things running smoothly. The only thing I'm against is paying ridiculous main dealer rates for a stamp in the book. Our local garage does a much better job, but no stamp, so warantee voided.
Weird Nev, yes you must be weird. You seem to have read a different post. Where in my post did I write that we do NO maintenence, no fluids, filter or even a cursory check and then expect someone else to pick up the tab for our negligence?:smileyhea A SMILE COSTS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING0 -
I'm amazed at the price you are being quoted. I was told a 3 year service package was to cost £299 (approx £98 each) which I thought was very reasonable.0
