Purchasing freehold - do I need a solicitor?

DH is selling his house in a few months time and we are buying the freehold.
We have had a letter from the landlord's solicitors with all the freehold info and they are asking for our solicitors in order to proceed with the purchase.
I am just wondering if we have to have a solicitor or whether we can just accept the freehold as is?

IMHO you have to be nuts to consider risking a 200K mistake over a piddly solictiors fee

A statement like the above is like saying: "Always use a main dealership for servicing/changing the oil on your car".
Some people can do basic car maintenance, some can't.
Some people can manage their own finances, some need a financial advisor.
Some people can sue a shop themselves, some need a solicitor.
It all depends on the complexity of the problem at hand, and the knowledge, skillset of the individual.0 -

It could well be, but unless you know what to look out for then, you just don't know(if that makes sense)
If it turns out to be that straight forward then it's not going to cost you much anyway. However you are essentially buying a property and there will be checks and searches to be made0
