Homeinsurer.co.uk the' INDEPENDENT ' broker

Hi all, I have just call HomeInsurer.co.uk otherwise known as Thamesbank Insurance Services, they always come up cheapest on sites like confused.com. We had an issue over them trying to charge us £20 for a missed DD, happy to make the payment up but refused to pay a £20 fee. Customer service was awful, spoke to agent, she referred to her manager, John Samuel, there are just two people in the office. Then told to call my actual insurance company called Paragon Red, who surprisingly are based in the SAME office with the SAME telephone number??? Same person answers the phone as well??? How is that an independent broker??? Is that legal, I did a few searches Thamesbank Insurance Services Limited does not seem to exist on companies house? Paragon has a single Director a MR Yakubu Musa Mafullul?? Also they have been suspended to be stiken off the register as a company several times!!!!
Their capital is down at just £20k, is this a con, can they really insure all the customers they are referred from confused.com and what checks are done???

Are you sure the Paragon you looked at is your insurer? The individual you mentioned is a director of a broker.

There are several "Paragon"s registered, to the best of my knowledge all of them are simply intermediaries or MGAs and none are actual insurers

Independents are typically fee based. That is one of the reasons people use them. You created work. you pay for it. Why should others pay for your work?

Why would their capital position be a con?

They are an intermediary. Not an insurer.

  • Steer clear of these crooks. I was trying to get a quote from money supermarket and selected Hastings Direct. However this company still managed to get our telephone number and hassled us with ten calls. Eventually they duped my partner into taking a policy by pretending to be someone else.

I cancelled the policy but they wanted to charge me £20 for it despite a cooling off period. They still have not returned my money so next step will be a solicitors letter.

Have complained to money supermarket as well but not sure they are really bothered.
