First direct and HSBC sharing customer data

Hello just a quick query, I have some bad history with HSBC from my past approx 7 years ago. I wondered if anyone know whether this would forever prevent me from using first directs products or even HSBC again? Thank you in advance

I have a First direct and HSBC and First direct had access to my HSBC account and could see my outgoings etc.

I guess it depends on whether your old HSBC is closed or not, and if they do only keep information for 6 years.

    Damn I'm doomed.

Was this the only issue, or have there been others since?

Banks may keep the details longer than 6 years. I closed LTSB 10 years ago,

4 Months ago I went into LTSB branch to open up the account. The adviser inputted my details on their screen and they bought up details of my previous account.

Sometime ago I requested to increase overdraft on my HSBC account. When the adviser was processing the application, MY FD sort code and account number appeared on the screen. She told me the s/c and a/c number. I told her this is my FD account. She said the usage of that account will be taken into account to process overdraft application.

I now have a dormant HSBC Current account for the last one year and they still sent me a letter saying that they have renewed my overdraft limit and it will be staying the same. I guess even I am not using the account, they are getting scores from my First Direct account which is my main account for salary etc otherwise they would have removed the overdraft + closed it as requirement is £500pm which is not being met.

  • I believe that HSBC can see FD account info and vice-versa, given that you can go into HSBC and use their machines to print out your FD statements, DD info etc.

I'd have also thought it very poor judgement if they had information about bad debtors from one side of the business, but didn't apply it to the good of the other.
