Ask buyer to open case?

I have an INR and need to sort out a refund for the buyer.

Should I ask the buyer to open a case and refund to get my fees back or just refund?

This is the second INR in about 3 weeks, the first opened a case.

I know cases don't count against you if sorted in time, but is two in three weeks still OK, or am I missing something?

Many thanks

I always ask them to open cases as I've been stung by a bad ebayer before who asked for refund I did, then he opened case. Ebay obviously sided with buyer so I only refund through cases now

Yes, it's a good idea. Some Chinese scammers are starting up web sites in other languages to English with your products, then use ebay account to buy your item and you send it out, and then claim the money back from you (or try to). Insist they open a case and they will run into problems after a certain number. They are also using hacked accounts to do the same, but it will still cause them problems.

With the new procedure, it should be more difficult for the buyer NOT to open a case.....it seems to default to case open rather than send a message!

I've had an INR and an SNAD in the past week , neither opened a formal case. I asked both to open one and both have refused.

The odd thing is I feel there's something suspicious about the fact they won't open cases. :p
