    Make sure that when you use your halifax clarity credit card in HK, you ask to pay in HK dollars (may sound weird to them at first). Many of the places recognise that it's a foreign card and will charge you in pounds by converting the amount to pounds at their in-house rate. Just be aware.

    Applied for the card online yesterday and seem to have been accepted at 12.9% :)

    The only issue is that I seem to have a (provisional) credit limit which in comparison to my other cards is low.

    Not sure why its provisional and how likely is it that when the card arrives it will be correct.

    Use it for a few months before you leave, paying off the balance in full each month and then request an increase to your credit limit before your trip.
