Hi,
Did anyone receive a fraud letter from Cap one recently?.
It seems my card is one of many that "may" have fallen into the hands of fraudsters, how is that possible?!.
I have called them, they confirmed it, but were very vague how this happened, now i have the hassle of having replacement cards & sorting out direct debits etc

No one said it was gonna be easy!

Better than having to deal with all the fraudulent transactions though, isn't it? And then still having to change your cards.
You can't blame them for wanting to protect what is, at the end of the day, their money.0 -

A bit of a hassel but not as much hassel as getting your money back if it got stolen though right?
I'd be happy at the banks actions here if I was in your shoes.0 -

Got the same letter recently. New replacement card was sent out to me. There were no suspicious transaction on my account that I could see.0 -

A similar thing happened to me last year. Two of my cards were replaced.
The new card Capital One issued me with has the same account number as the old one. IIRC the only difference was the three digit number on the back of the card and the 'Valid From' date.
How is it possible? Presumably you use the card. When you use it you pass its details on to a third party. Presumably a retailer you use has had a (suspected) security breach.I have called them, they confirmed it, but were very vague how this happened, now i have the hassle of having replacement cards & sorting out direct debits etc
You don't need to change the Direct Debit. Let Capital One worry about that. CPAs are almost certain to be paid too.0 -
oh great, waiting for a hat trick then, have had 2 calls from hsbc today to say my debit cards had dodgy transactions stopped on them, first call i was cagey didn't give more than asked for, 2nd 1 i though hmmmm, said i couldn't speak at the time and i would call them. Wasn't until i got off the phone i realised 1st call was about 1 account, 2nd was about the other 1. So now i have no debit cards and was waiting for a call about hubbies card, but now I shall wait for Mr Postie to bring me this instead ;0/0

I am more concerned that it was not ONLY my card, this seems to have been a breach on the part of Cap1, not me using my card dodgely. Oh well life goes on!, thanks for all the replies. No one said it was gonna be easy!0
