ACORN IS releasing The Inspector Alleyn Mysteries on DVD on 14 May. This classic crime drama stars Patrick Malahide (The Singing Detective) as the hard-working aristocratic Chief Inspector Alleyn, who is ably assisted by his lady friend, artist Agatha Troy, Belinda Lang (To Serve Them All My Days) and Detective Inspector Fox, William Simons (Cribb).
The Inspector Alleyn Mysteries is essential viewing for any fans of the British crime genre. Alleyn is a detective who has a welter of connections among the upper-class elite in British high society and he uses his privileged background to bring some unlikely culprits to justice.
The Inspector Alleyn Mysteries is a four DVD set, containing eight mysteries, priced at just £29.99. The DVDs also contain special features including a Picture Gallery, Ngaio Marsh Biography, Cast Filmographies and subtitling. The four-DVD set will be available in High Street stores or by calling the Acorn Video hotline on 0845 123 2312.
Ngaio Marsh created the elegant Chief Inspector Roderick Alleyn, her best-known character, in her first novel, A Man Lay Dead, which introduced Alleyn to the literary world when it was published in 1934. Ironically, Marsh admitted that she was not a fan of detective stories and that she rarely read them. But she did hold a great affection for the work of mystery writer Dorothy L. Sayers, and acknowledged the influence that Lord Peter Wimsey, Sayers’ well-known detective, had on her character Inspector Alleyn.
Our great friends at Acorn Media UK have given us some copies of the DVD to give away, to try and win just tell us the name of the actor who play Chief Inspector Alleyn.
Answer: Patrick Malahide
