AA breakdown renewal came through today and it seems they had taken it upon themselves to upgrade my family membership to "Gold" (to include numerous "free" benefits) without me asking. The effect of these "free" benefits was a 14% increase in the monthly premiums from £35 to £40. I called AA and asked them to explain such a large increase for the exact same cover (especially as the AA website quoted that cover for considerably less) and within 5 minutes they had reduced it to £26! So a quick call has saved £168 off the renewal price for next year's cover! Definitely worth making the call and asking them to justify their pricing.
