New stair bannister

My current bannisters are the race course/paddock type and I can't stand them. I've looked at the d.i.y. posts/spindles and bannisters which I like but I'd rather investigate something different. I suspect glass will be beyond my budget and wonder if anyone can suggest alternatives, please?

Thanks McAzreal and andyred. I would have replied earlier but I always seem to need to log in 2 or 3 times before it lets me post and it takes ages. Still, I love this place, saved me plenty of bucks over the last year. Thanks Martin.
