Hi all, I am not new to Mse but new to this site. I am trying to get my head around these threads. I just picked up a Dare magazine in the chemists. It has some coupons in there for £5.00 off straighteners and some other coupons. I know this will seem like a silly question to most of you but can I use these coupons for my grocery shop at Asda and Tescos? Also when I was trying to read the first threads there are boots coupons can I use them too off my groceries? This seems too good to be true if this is so. Also I have read some references to barcodes starting with a 99 what exactly does that mean? Thanks in advance. Sorry I am trying to read the threads but am getting confused. Taffy

Mrs T has covered most of it with her answer; Superdrug & Boots Coupons are a no-no I am afraid.

But don't let it put you off, because using coupons the way we do really does seem too good to be true, we regularly save soooo much money at Tesco & you can too.

There are some free coupons around, particularly if your Tesco accepts printable coupons. Have a look on the 'printable coupons' thread here:

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=106159&page=21

Print a couple of in-date ones from the most recent posts and offer them at the till in Tesco. If not (or if you prefer Asda who are notoriously bad at accepting internet coupons) then you need other 'real' coupons from magazines etc.

Keep looking at this thread every day or so, and the Newpaper thread every day (can't give a useful link as a new one is posted each day by quoia, but you can always find it under Discount Codes & Vouchers). Although they are not free (as you have to buy the newspaper or mag unless you like to hang around in your local GP's waiting room on a weekly basis!) you can make a tidy profit sometimes by buying bulk copies just for the coupons.

And keep your eyes peeled before chucking out the leaflets in your free paper (if you get one) and if attending local or national Food shows, Baby shows, Country Fairs in the Summer etc. There are often coupons to be gathered for free.

Also, when in any Supermarket, if they are offering ANY product to try, then feign an interest and get some free coupons - sometimes they are not store-specific in which case you can use them at Tesco/Asda/Waitrose.

You are looking for non-store specific coupons where the barcode starts with 9 9 (and they must be in date of course). In Tesco you can use one of each type of coupon each time you shop, if Tesco stock that item, which they usually do.

Thank you so much Mrs T and Coupon. I used to use coupons when I lived in Canada but only on items that I had bought, that's all that was allowed. One day I did a $250 shop (I have 4 kids) and I saved $66.00 in coupons and $140 in savings in the store. In Canada there are courtesy clerks that take your groceries out to your car. The young boy saw I had a BMW (It was 12 years old) and said no wonder you can buy a BMW with all your coupons, lol.
So I have to get back with it again and use more coupons. Ok will do keep reading here and the newspapers.

    Hi

Yes the couponnet coupons are fine for use in tesco I use them all the time. You can only use one of each type of vouchers at any time ie you cannot use two nicorette ones in the same transaction. Hope ive made sense

Thanks to Jude1234 for posting this on PTS: :T

The 100 extra point offer is still on at Tesco (this is the last day of the offer apparently). Moreover, Grazia is back to full price £1.90, but has a coupon inside for 90p off next week's Grazia, valid until 6th May 2008. ;)
