I want to upgrade my shower and my question is about my present electrics. The cable is 6mm, not enclosed, and the breaker in the box says B.40. Will this be ok for the new shower?? thanks for any advice.

no for both, that size shower will req a 10mm cable & a 45amp "breaker"I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
Thanks for that so I have a follow up question as you would expect. Could you give me an indication of the cost of changing the cable and the breaker,ta. I live in southern england just in case regional charges vary.0

It depends on how much cable is required and whether a rcbo can be fitted into you existing fuse board.
10mm cable aint cheap neither are rcbo's !You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -

It depends on the length and route of cable, etc, etc.

Had a sparks round to look at the job. Apart from the fact that he said the existing cable and breaker would probably be ok -which I will not accept - he then said the job would entail lifting the landing carpet, floorboards etc. I must admit I thought that the 10mm cable could be attached to the 6mm cable and pulled through. The sparks said no that could not be done. So do all the electricians on the site agree with him. I just want to be sure as she who must be obeyed is not to happy with his claim but if we are going to have the new shower fitted I guess needs must.0

 most certainly is not ok to use that cable on that size load
10.5kW / 45.65A so a 40 A mcb is not correct size either, cable has to be minimum 10.0mm. Your electrician sounds incompetent to say the least.
If the cable needs replacing you will need it signed off by a registered electrician, jobs like this cant be done by any tom-!!!!!! or harry like the electrician you have had around sounds like.
How many meters back to your fuse box and what is the make of your fuse box ?You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
Had a look and it is a MK make fitted Jan 2010. At a really rough guess a cable run of 15 metres.0
