Scrapped car- V5C - Section 9 - what to write ?
Car has been scrapped, the V5Clog book says fill in section 9 of the log book and send it back to them, stating that it has been scrapped.
But section 9 asks for the name of the business name, address etc
and gives the declaration that the registered keeper has sold/ or transferred the vehicle but doesn't mention scrapped? so how will the DVLA know its been scrapped, by filling and sending this section 9?
or do you have to mention, that it has been scrapped ?
whose name and address do you put on the business name/ address ?
- yes i know the scrap company will issue a certificate, but I want to tell DVLA myself, using the V5C log book instructions, section 9, and send it to them.

If you have been issued an end of life cert you need do nothing else as the issuing computer is linked up to the DVLA system. If you havnt got an end of life cert then as far as you are concerned the car hasnt been scrapped and you should just send the v5 back with the new keepers details on it.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

Have you actually scrapped the car yourself or just sold it to someone who said they were scrapping it? If you scrap a car you must be issued with an end of life cert by the scrapyard. Did you get one?Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

It has been given for being scrapped, to a company.
But i want to contact dvla and tell them myself too, via the Section 9 of the log book.0 -

untrue; I've scrapped a couple in last few months and no cert provided. The yard is a large well-known local company who are very professional and have LA contracts, so not a fly-by-night outfit. The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
Sorry but its very true..
I too have scrapped a few cars in my time and Ive always gor a cert.
Certificate of Destruction
It is a now a legal requirement for all scrap cars to be issued with an official DVLA Certificate of Destruction when they reach the end of their useful life.
Did you know that...The Certificate of Destruction can only be issued by Authorised Treatment Facilities which have been approved by DVLA.
The Certificate of Destruction is the only form of document recognised by DVLA as proof that a car has been destroyed at an Authorised Treatment Facility.
If you scrap your car without obtaining an official Certificate of Destruction you could be fined by DVLA, or even worse, if your car ends up being returned to the road by an unscrupulous operator you could face prosecution if it is later used for criminal activity.
When you choose CarTakeBack to recycle your scrap car we will issue you with a DVLA Certificate of Destruction, using our secure online link to the DVLA's vehicle registration database. We can issue your certificate as soon as your car has arrived on site while you wait, or we can send it to you by e-mail or post to an address of your choice.
There is no need to contact DVLA yourself as CarTakeBack does everything for you, giving you complete peace of mind.
Your official Certificate of Destruction issued by a CarTakeBack scrap car recycling centre will carry the DVLA logo and look like the image below. Please be aware of imitations.
