Are they still strict on what you can carry in hand luggages at airports and need to put toileteries in a clear plastic bag?
I want to take a bottle of wine with me which I have bought locally. Can i take this in my hand luggage or does it have to be put in the main luggage to be checked in?

They are still being really stict about the size and weight of hand luggage as well as the liquids you can take onboard in your hand luggage.
The most up to date information including the dimensions for hand luggage is available on BAA's website https://www.baa.com:j Debt free since 31/01/08:j

Rules still apply...

And that's the maximum size - many airlines have hand luggage size limits that are smaller0

Do these rules only apply to Uk airports? What if a buy some bottles at Heathrow duty free and then change planes abroad with the bottles in my hand luggage?0

It depends on where you are travelling through. If it's through another EU airport then you can take SEALED DUTY FREE from other EU countries through security, if it's the US then you have to check it when you pick up your luggage when you arrive in the US. anywhere else depends on local rules0
