tesco mobile- phasing out payg lite tariff?

What is going on with this?

I went to my local tesco to buy a sim that was plastered with their triple credit tariff so i asked a member of staff where i could get a sim for their lite tariff.

He said that it was just advertising on the box and all the sims were on the lite tariff as standard, i went off to a quiet corner and opened it and low and behold it was a triple credit sim.

So i went online and ordered a payg sim on the lite tariff [well hidden on a website that seemed to be fanatically advertising the triple tariff] which finally arrived yesterday and today they have texted me to tell me my tariff details have changed and looking at the details they have put me on the bloody stupid triple credit tariff!

So what the hell is going on? Are they phasing out there lite tariff and if so why can't they be honest about it? Am i on the triple tariff now ir the lite one?

If i wanted the triple tariff i would have purchased it in store not jumped through all these hoops only to get switched to it after waiting an age for the right sim!

I called the free phone number and it says the data charges have changed and that's it but i'm also getting texts from tesco telling me they will triple my credit when i top up 10, 20 or 30 pounds which is what they do on the triple credit tariff.

Very confused.
Tesco stop wasting your customers time pls.

I'll look for a number to call that'll tell me which tariff i'm on.

Phone networks periodically repackage their tariffs, and each time my contact comes up I've had to choose between a load of new confusing tariffs if I wanted a new handset as the packages changed each time. Looks like the payg ones do too. Just a fact of mobile life it seems!

That's fine but i'm still not sure which tariff i'm on. They haven't officially retired the lite tariff just changed the charges but at the same time i get texts telling me they will triple my credit which is what they do on the triple credit tariff.

Why can't it be clear cut? If the lite tariff is being phased out tell your customers! lol. Don't tell them your tariff conditions have changed then text them a bunch of contradictory baloney.

Please does anyone know what's going on?

If you don't like it then leave.

Tesco Lite tariff although 8p/min and 4p/text is now quite expensive.

Try Ovivo Mobile for £0 per month yes zero it's not a typo...you get 150 minutes and 150 texts and some data to use as well. Downsides are you have to buy the SIM for £15 (but that is loaded as credit to use when you exceed the free monthly allowance) and you get email marketing and possibly direct marketing to your phone in the future...which you can easily ignore.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Why not call ask what tariff you are on ?

And maybe ask what's going on.

Same happened to me as it did to eskimo26. I got a Tesco PAYG Lite sim the same route as he did. Followed the procedure to register and top-up etc. Few hours later got a set of texts welcoming me to "PAYG with free credit" which seems another name for the "Triple Credit" one. I sure did not request a change - either online or via 282 etc.

Anyway to cut a long story I eventually called 4455 Customer Care (number pre loaded into sim) and a nice chap explained the new tariff, understood it was not want I wanted, says he will swap me back to the Lite tariff. So far I have a text telling me my request to change tariff will be processed within 24hrs.:D

Lets hope. Else I too will be going elsewhere as I only want the phone for occasional use so not interested in the additional credit one - even if as explained above you only loose the additional credit if not used in 30days but keep the credit you paid for as that would be used up at 3x the Lite rate (25p / min).
