i want to replace our doors in the house
its a 1950 ex council house ..the sizes dont seem to match whats for sale
mine are 197cm x75.5 .. ones for sale are 198.1cm , plus i need to trim off a little more for riser hinges (most state no more than 10mm off ...id need about 16mm off inc the riser hinge)
does anywhere sell other size doors..or ones with ample room for trimming to suit

Could take equal of top and bottom, failing that you usually only get about 20mm solid wood inserted in the base of the door. Not advised but cut off what you require and glue another piece inside the door cavity left0

yeah theyre saying 10mm total ...im not that keen bodging in a peice of wood on a brand new door but maybe i will have to0
-
It's a piece of wood that's in there anyway. (Yes, I took enough off to discover this)0

yeah i realise its already wood in there , i was hoping i could maybe pay a little more or shop around and find one with a little thicker frame
while i dont want to spend more than i have to , i dont like buying absolute rubbish which alot of them sound like they are0 -
honestly im thinking as much ££ as it takes to get reasonble quality rather than absolute junk0

just been in a similar situation and had to end up going down the route of getting a joinery to make our doors...we needed 6 as all our openings were very strange sizes and not standard.
you say you will be willing to pay to get a good quality door...we ended up paying £2000 for fully fitted etc...
Alot will depend on the style you want but it is certainly possible to get joinery's to produce 1 door
What we have is certainly a substantial solid product and in my opinion a better option than trying to make an off the shelf door fit.frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!
2017 toiletries challenge 179 out 145 in ...£18.64 spend0 -
yeah i did see you can get a pine door for not alot more ..i read that theyre more prone to warping and then theres all the priming and painting to make them nice vs a molded one is ready to take paint
i might leave it if i cant get something thats actualy better than what i have now0 -
I had a similar issue. The wood frame round the edge was about 25mm wide. I took off 10mm from top and bottom in the worst case, giving 20mm in total. Not ideal, but they survived. They were Wickes doors but I suspect all moulded doors come from the same factory in China.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

leif would you buy the wickes ones again? or are they nasty0

We have just had the exact same problem albeit with only one door. Went for flush doors from Wickes in the end, just to make it easier. Ended up sawing off one side to required width, cutting timber and inserting it between panels, re-attach end to allow for planing. All pinned end glued back together. We cannot tell now but it was a bit of a pain to do. Thank fully only one door and table saw made it a little easier.0
