Ultrasonic mouse repellant - any good?

Had a mouse speeding in front of my legs yesterday in the spare room (at least think it was a mouse!). No food in there and we live in a fairly sealed new (ish) flat so no idea how it got in... will be working on that this weekend...

Now I found this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mouse-Rat-Ultrasonic-Repeller-Repellant/dp/B000LJ56OA

Which supossidly works according to a review - but that could be the manufacturer putting that review there. Anyone used/know if these work. Heard some people say yes some say no - guess it depends on the make etc?

Dont like the thought of having to pick up a dead one and also humane traps generally dont work from what Ive heard :(

Thanks all...

I`ve been there , tried that and they are a disaster . I placed one in our kitchen with a coupla mouse traps next it and in morning not only had I caught 2 mice but the bait had been taken off the traps , after the 1st 2 had been caught obviously !

I can just imagine a gang of meeces having a wee party and dancing round my ultrasonic repeller during the night !

We were almost over-run with mice as I ignored it the 1st time I saw one so don`t make the same mistake . I found the best solution was poison . I think it was sorexin which dehydrates them so they run off outside looking for something to drink and die far far away from the house .

if its a repeller would'nt the mices need somewhere to excape to?, if the kitchen was closed then they probably had no where to go to, except the traps.

I'm just guessing here, I know nothing about how they work! :)

We have had a mice problem and have found the best way to catch them is by using mousetraps. The best ones are made by Rentokil and cost about £3.00 and the best bait seems to be peanut butter. We have tried using poison but the trouble with that is if a mouse dies in the house, it is extremely hard to find the body and when it starts to decompose, the smell is absolutely awful and lasts for about a week. As for humane traps, they don't really work. Another tip I was given was to put peppermint oil in the room as mice do not like this, but all in all, I favour the mousetrap.

Hope this advise helps you decide what to do.

They posh ones are supposed to send pulses around the 13Amp ring main in the house. These seem to be just mini speakers.

They def do not seem to affect Field mice, as I got 2 devices ( posh version, however no spiders though?), or maybe mine (mices ) are deaf. ;)

Invest in a decent sized "humane" trap (<£5), not the undersized B&Q multitraps.

Caught 6 of the little bewgars so far.

Stop faffing around with traps, repellants and poisons.

Get a cat or borrow a neighbour's cat for an hour or two.

It'll be a bloodbath but it'll make an example of the first victim. :-D

Which humane trap do you use? :)

I started with a humane trap - the mouse/mice filled it with shredded paper and made a comfy bed.

Since buying the ultrasonic plug-ins, we've been mouse free (even the bag of bird food is untouched). I think they work in small enclosed areas (in my case, a pantry and a small store room).

We have one of those ultrasonic things that also emits a magnetic wave around the wiring system. And I can honestly say that we have not had the little harvest mouse, that lives outside, indoors since we put it outside before we plugged the ultrasonic thingy in.

I sat and watched this mouse one day, he came right up to the patio doors, sniffed and ran away squeaking. It hasn't come anywhere near the doors since. Although I do have the ultrasonic device plugged into the socket near the patio doors.

I thought the plug in devices were working except last week one of my ever-present mousetraps caught a mouse. I do believe that the plug in devices keep out the spiders. If you are more squeemish than moneysaving, put the mousetrap in a paper bag, so you can dump the whole thing in the bin when the mouse gets caught.
