Cutting the chimney of a cooker hood

We have bought an AEG cooker hood like this http://www.aeg.co.uk/Products/Cooking/Cooker_hoods/Chimney_hoods/HC5690-M
The problem is that the chimney part needs to be trimmed by about 2" as it doesn't fit the gap between the hood and the ceiling ( the chimney is made like a telescope so the cut part won't be on show).
How would we go about this and are specialist tools needed? My husband said he would use an angle grinder next weekend but there must be an easier way.

There is no recommendation! I think it's an oversight on the manufacturers part - the chimney stretches to about 6' long (which hardly anyone wants) and unstretched is only a tiny bit too long for the space. If they had made it say 3" shorter it would accommodate kitchens like ours and there would be no problem.0

They are difficult to cut without it showing. Being so reflective they show every out of flat edge, just like dents on a car panel.
Don't be tempted to use any form of shears or snippers, there use will show.
Clamped very securely to suitable sized pieces of wood and then cut with a fine toothed hacksaw is they way I've done them.
And lets get this straight, I didn't mention the angle grinder:rotfl:I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
There was s recent thread on here (or might have been another forum) where a poster said they had had it done at their local metal fabricators for only £10 and the cut was perfect. Might be worth considering if you have one close by.

I've looked in the phone book and we have a fabricator about 5 miles away.
I shall ring them tomorrow. thanks for the tip :T0 -
Just to let you know, the cut was £20. More than your friend paid, but worth it to get rid of the headache.0

Don't know if they are friends - it was Phil. But he's a serial fitter so probably gets discount for quantity. Anyway - yours is done now.
Cheers
