iTunes - streamed around house

Hi there.

This may have been answered previously, and maybe someone can point me in the correct direction.

I have ceiling speakers in 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. I have speakers in the kitchen and speakers in the living room connected to the tv through a amp.

I currently have a old Mac mini connected to a hard drive with all my media on. I have a new Apple Pro laptop now. The amp has zone 2 on it.

I would like to stream music from my iTunes library to any or all speakers in the house. But do not know where to start, or what I would need etc..

Would I be able to play different music from iTunes in different rooms?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Richard

First off all you should change the itunes music folder to point to your Hard Drive music folder so that it can be shared between devices, and then you need either an Apple TV or Airport Express device in order to use AirPlay - you basically hook up a pair of speakers to the airport express device.

Anything played through AirPlay (i.e. your iTunes Music Library via iTunes) can then be streamed to the airport express device. You could also use your hd tv with Apple TV to do streaming.

I dont see why he needs to move his music if on an external hard drive? The Mac Mini never needs to be switched off so if the itunes on that has direct access to the media, its perfect.

The MacBook Pro can access media from the Mac Mini over the network.

Apple TV is a great little device for your TV, but unnecessary if it it only music you want to stream, in which case airport express is the best thing to look at

Are these speakers active or passive? If they are passive then are they wired up to an amp? Is it one amp for all of them or different amps for each room?

I am not sure what you mean by active or passive, but i cant plug them directly into the airport, they are just wires.. Sorry haven't replied before now, i have been on holiday :) oh and thank you for your replies so far.
