wallpapering a feature wall : window recess advice

Hi,

We are going to wallpaper 1 wall in our bedroom as a feature wall. All other walls are painted.

The wall in question has a small window to one side (60cm wide, 115 cm high).

We are not sure what to do about the window recess. Should this be papered? or should it be left with the room paint colour for some contrast.

Would welcome any thoughts.

TIA

I think thats personal preference really...the only thing I would say is if you arn't going into the recess with the wall paper do you plan to have it stop at the edge of the recess?...personally I would take the wallpaper all the way rather than having a visiable wallpaper edge or even worse, having to paint a very straigt line on a wall that is not concealed.

Although having said all that I probably wouldnt choose a feture wall to be the one with the window...in my opinion theres enough features outside the window to look at...and I would probably choose a different wall to "feature" especially if the wall is going to be patterened...but obviously again its your choice

Thanks. No choice with the room layout. Its definitely the right wall as the others would not work. There is a king sized bed on that wall. The window in question is small and to one extreme end.

On reflection and considering your comment about the paper edge and paint edge it seems a no brainer to paper the recess. Its not like a bathroom where you might have chrome trim at the junction.

Thanks a lot. That has been very helpful indeed.

Just remember when papering a feature wall to work from the middle of the wall outwards, not from the corner, especially if you have a big pattern.

I've done both. Last room I papered, I left the window recess unpapered (actually lining paper painted white) as the paper was very dark and intend replacing windows in next couple of years. The curtains conceal the join.

Don't forget papered feature walls have had their day and are considered a bit dated now.....
