hotmail messages all gone

I logged in to my one of my hotmail account which I haven't accessed for quite a while and all my messages were gone. I also notice its now changed to windows live. What happened?

If you don't access your hotmail account every now and then, they do delete your mails, but seem to leave your access details so that you can at least reactivate the account. See below:

Account activity

• Your account becomes inactive if you do not sign in for 30 days, or within the first 10 days after signing up for an account. After an account becomes inactive, all messages, folders, and contacts are deleted, but the account name is still reserved.
• If the account stays inactive for an additional 90 days, it is permanently deleted.

• Your account remains active as long as your subscription is active.

Yeah, I had that happen once 30 days is not a long time, I was using it as a secondary email address. BTW, Google mail is much more generous, 9 months before they nuke your account.
