Problems with Lenovo

I was having problems with my Iomega Ego External Hard Drive which was still under guarantee. I contacted Iomega and found that it was now owned by Lenovo. They accepted that the product was still under guarantee and informed me that they would send a replacement.

When I received the replacement I found it was a totally different Iomega model from the one in warranty and, moreover, it was a remanufactured and faulty - my computer failed to detect it and the lead to the drive fell out at the slightest touch.

I complained to Lenovo who said they would send me another replacement. When this one arrived, also remanufactured, I could not use it as it required the use of Bitlocker Encryption which is only installed on Windows 7 Enterprise and Ultimate editions and not on Home Professional.

I again contacted Lenovo who advised me first to 'upgrade to one of these Windows 7 versions in order to make use of the hard drive. Then in a further email they advised me to get Microsoft to sort out my corrupt Bitlocker, which would be rather difficult as my computer is not equipped with it.

I am now at loss where to go with my complaint but I would certainly advise people to be wary of their warranty status if they are thinking of choosing an Iomega product or purchasing anything from Lenovo.

I swore many years ago that I would never buy another Iomega product again after all the Jaz drive failures. Cost me a fortune in lost data and they refused to offer compensation. Iomega = TRASH as far as I'm concerned.

Odd isn't it how experience colours our view of things.

I had a 100Mb Iomega Zip drive when they came out and it was one of the best PC accessories I ever bought at the time. This was followed by the 250Mb Zip drive, ditto.

Then Work started using the 250Mb Zip drive for personal file backups, again excellent and reliable. For those of us with more data to back up than the average user we were supplied with Jazz drives which worked flawlessly for years.

I still have mine and a pile of cartridges in the cupboard and I'd bet money that it still works.
One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.
