Back to the 70s - I bought a Yucca

Having a newly decorated and declutter house (well nearly, still sorting here) I decided to fill a space in the lounge with a plant. As I was in Ikea I couldn't resist the houseplants and settled on the tried and tested Yucca. As I usually kill houseplants and had success with a Yucca many years ago I succumbed and bought a big one for £25. Fingers crossed that it'll survive.

Did you get a lava lamp, and a Black Forest Gateau to go with it? Oh yes, and flares ...Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

(Actually I prefer to say I'm wearing bootlegs - trousers - rather than call them flares, though I have been known to dabble with skinnies!)somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0 -

Yes, but will you?
When I had a yucca in the garden, I soon tired of the injuries received from the spines. One day, while pruning something else nearby, a point went deep into my knee.
That was it. The yucca went the way of the avocado.....
...bathroom suite that is!0 -
I have a yucca, bought from Lidl..so maybe it isn't. No injuries as yet. Lives behind my leather loveseat in sitting room from September to May and then in garden which it loves.
My parents bought a Scandinavian style house with an avocado bathroom - even had fitted avocado wool Wilton carpet eww. My mother is on phone with me as I type, so just asked her about 70s and she added G Plan and Ercol furniture, macrame pot holders with ferns, maxi skirts, hot pants, and knee high boots with rounded toes and stacked heels plus the Bay City Rollers. :rotfl:0 -

That made me laugh about the G plan and Ercol furniture, about 2 years ago we inherited a wall unit, dining table and coffee tables that are G plan. My teenage girls are always telling me the dining room looks like a 70's throw back! Sure if I keep it long enough it will come back into fashion..............won't it? :rotfl:0 -

It is in fashion - in a posh shop near you :rotfl:
Seriously, not really my taste, but G plan and Ercol stuff fetches a good price now (especially Ercol), even at auction, and are considered design classics
And why not - it is well made, solid wood and a darn sight better than anything you can buy now unless you spend an absolute fortune.

I might, but I can't find a Berni Inn anywhere!0 -
My grandma gave me and my sister each a yucca when we were younger. They survived moving house with us, and mine spent a winter in a carier bag in the garden because for some reason we didn't get round to planting it.
I'm 27 now, and my yucca is still alive!
My sister's had a lot of babies - and I mean a lot. One of those babies was kept but sadly my sister's yucca died.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

Well thanks for the warnings about viscious spikes - I'll make sure it's not too close to the action.
Reading these posts has made me quite nostalgic for the 70s.....somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0 -
aaaaaaaagh My yukka (also from lidl) is proper poorly I don't think it's recovered from moving 2 years ago.
maybe I should bung it outside for a while or re-pot it (when it warms up a bit).
