You can in some circumstances. It depends on their income.

Absolutely, CA increases the applicable amount for guarantee Pension Credit as carer premiums are added.
Many thanks Richard, Torry, bigboybrother, Mojisola, benefitbaby and Mazza (:D) I really appreciate all your advice. I've written it all down and will action it next week. It is so great to be able to come on here and get some pointers form people who've been there done that.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

Would have thought over 16k in savings would wipe out any guarantee Pension Credit plus the ops parents are not yet in recipt of attendance allowance

Having over £16000 in savings does not make you ineligible for guarantee pension credit.

If you are eligible for guarantee pension credit then you can have £10000 in savings and any amount over this is deducted at the rate of £1 for every £500 (or part of).

However, you would need to check if they were eligible first as state and private pensions are counted as income.

Google to find out more (sorry, can't post a link at the moment).

True, but given that care is needed then an AA claim may be appropriate... which then gives rise to CA claim and GPC.
