Rhubarb crowns
Options
I purchased a pack of 2 rhubarb crowns from B&Q, I followed the instructs and planted them out (on the south coast so is fairly mild) and after 4/5 weeks they have done absolutely nothing.
Think of taking them back to B&Q but wondered if I was being a little hasty?

You are, I have crowns years old, and they are not moving, also on south coast. It is just too cold and horrible at the moment, although sun is out today so her's hoping a change is on the wayEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0

On Friday's Gardeners World Monty Don said that the cold wet spring has set everything back by 3 to 4 weeks. Once the weather warms up everything will spring into growth and we'll be out in the garden from dawn to dusk (fingers crossed !).
I'm using this time to tidy and clear out the junk from shed and garage, put new blades in the mowers, clean my garden tools and plant up plug plants. Not even set foot in a garden centre yet because I know I couldn't stop myself buying stuff !

Our rhubarb plant is only just coming to life and my Aunt hasn't any sign of hers yet. Rhubarb is notoriously bad for trying to get rid of one you plant it so can't imagine it is dead, I would give it another couple of weeks and see how it goes.0

Mine has lots of leaves, and buds. It's Timperley Early though. Some friend's rhubarb was sprouting leaves just after Christmas! I guess theirs is also TE.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

I planted a B&Q crown last year, no show for the whole year! Thought it was dead!
Went to the lotty yesterday and its sprung into life! Got a few leaves on it now!
So my response is just leave it in the ground, it may come to life at some point!0 -
I’m a novice gardener but have part of a crown that I transplanted last year, from a very old plant and it is showing signs of life, even up here in NE Scotland.
Although I remember my parents and grandparents used to put a metal bucket – the oor willie type– over the crown as a means of bringing it on quicker, forcing it I suppose – might be worth a try.

Do not force a young or immature plant, it will just weaken it foreverEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0
