Its my understanding that it is illegal to offer or to accept money for a mutual exchange.

Yes it is illegal and if we had a large sum of cash and money to redecorate to a high standard I would think we could afford to rent in the private sector xx

I know this is an old thread but wanted to update. My family have moved but not via home swap. Instead jumped through various hoops to get on the internal transfer list and since its so hard to get on said list, there were only ten people on the 4 bedroom list. Also they all were very particular about what they wanted. Recently a house came up where I ended up being fourth and the others didn't want it because it didn't have a back garden, it was electric only and it's difficult to park in the area none of which I mind. I couldn't believe it when they contacted me to offer it to me. It only took 4.5 months of having an active application to get somewhere. If you're a tenant of a HA which has a large number of properties internal transfer is probably a better route than home swapping xx
  • Glad to hear you got somewhere, I was just about to suggest getting your MP involved due to the overcrowding. No need lol.
  • Thanks :) my local MP was the infamous IDS and residents tried to get him to help with various housing related issues before and he was about as useful as a chocolate teapot xx

I'm so glad you have found a home. It just goes to show that going onto the transfer list can be productive. When I did it instead of waiting for the elusive home swap I had to wait a couple of years but got there in the end.

Coincidently people had turned down my property for various reasons which left us being offered it. Hope you have many happy years in your new home

sorry don't know why this has come out like this but I am unable to edit it?
