Wifi disconnect in one location

I use my laptop in two locations and on two wireless networks.
I try to use the battery until it runs down, then use mains power to charge it, then use the battery ...
At home, it stays connected to the network when on battery.
At the other location, it regularly disconnects when on battery. I can't reconnect to the network, either directly or via its profile. I have to restart the computer.
This network has just changed the wireless router, and it's still disconnecting with the new one.
The laptop's wifi adaptor's power management settings are set to not allow the computer to switch it off to save power.
Any ideas?
