Mastercard Refund on Cancelled Boiler Installation

I live abroad but have a rental flat in the UK. Boiler at rental flat stopped working and firm said new pump and powerflush was needed costing £600. Payment was made with Mastercard.
Following day firm said boiler was damaged and needed replacing. I indicated to the firm I was short of funds and requested a final price to complete the job. The firm quoted (not estimate) a final price of £2000 to install boiler. They required 50% deposit and charged it to my Mastercard.
Two days later they came back and said they needed an extra £800 to complete job as wiring had to be re-done. As I do not have that amount of money I wish to cancel the arrangement and seek out another plumber. Can I recover all monies from Mastercard if firm refuses to pay back the deposit?

So they charged your card for 50% of the fees and not until 2 days later mentioned the wiring. So perhaps they could have already bought the new boiler and associated equipment, as how would they know about the wiring?
So they might rightfully claim that they have already spent £1000.0
