SNAD computer, case opened - windows 7

Sold a high end computer (£200) on ebay and the buyer has opened a SNAD saying he has a problem activating Windows 7 and it will turn off in a few days time.
I reinstalled all the original software a day before posting.
The windows 7 label was attached. I took pictures of all the computer sides but not the side with the label on.
I did make a video showing the computer description (control panel>system) and on it it says 'windows is activated' along with the size of the hard drive and all the device manager details too.

The person wants the original windows 7 disk or the key. I can send a disc but dont have the key as its attached to the computer(!)

What do i do? I sold the computer to make money for a deposit and don't want the hastle of reselling, or it to be returned broken or with parts missing?

Stupid question, have you pointed out the label with the serial is on the side? - Not everyone understands these things and what they are for.
  • They have said they typed the number in but it still says not activated.
For it to go from activated (when i reinstalled everything and sent it) to non activated they must have changed or made alterations to the software?

Also if they escalalate to ebay will i be responsible for return postage? (it will cost around £20)

No idea about the postage and also no idea about the activation thing. M$ activations can be a bit screwy especially when you reinstall.

If it were me, I'd ask them to install TeamViewer so I can take a look at the thing remotely. I appreciate they might not want the hassle if they're trying to scam you but if they're genuine they might be more than willing for you to try.

I don't suppose you kept a copy of the motherboard and HDD serial numbers in the machine before you sent it? - IF you get remote access you can check those while viewing the system to see if they match. If they don't then it's not your problem as you have a buyer trying to stiff you.

If they open a dispute and win, then Ebay will only enforce the original payment i.e. the original price and initial postage.

If you are a business, then you should reimburse the returns.

If you are a private seller, that is up to you.

But if you were the buyer and this was the situation, how would you feel?

Have they changed the hardware. Tell them it was already activated and the sticker / serial is on the case.

I wonder if them plugging a new keyboard and mouse along with a monitor and printer etc takes them over the limit and it needs activating again.

The serial is not needed to activate it. They click activate windows and it goes online and checks its genuine and not in use elsewhere.

  • They say no hardware/software changes but entered key and its not activated.
I'm stuck now don't know what to do, I know it was fully working when it was sent.
