  • Hi

I would reccomend speaking to twotwentystairs.co.uk ask for them to send Scott around straight flights start from £100 out of softwood, our company use them for standard and bespoke work. Tell scott Kellaway sugested them and he will look after you.

Best of luck any questions just ask.

Changing staircaes is tricky and expensive.

I know what you mean though, I was in a new build for 2-3 days and really felt unsafe on the stairs. I have tiny feet and they weren't even as deep as my feet - and the angle was steep.... I'd have not bought it on that alone. I KNOW I'd take a tumble [a] before long regularly -and- [c] probably terminally.

We currently live in a Victorian terrace and our stairs are just like this and really don't like it. I have size five feet and can't get my whole foot on the stairs, which makes coming down them interesting to say the least! The stairs are old and 'dip' in the middles and the landlord has put some incredibly cheap, slick carpet on there which makes them lethal. I took a tumble down them at the beginning of last year and ever since I've come down sideways - it knackers your knees but it feels safer! I went home at Christmas and couldn't believe how safe I felt on the ordinary stairs!

Thanks for all the replys everyone. I should of been more specific. It's a 1930's house. Stair case would stay in the same place just change depth of step and steepness of stair case.

Have you got enough space? If the treads are bigger it will take more space. We had to ask permission for slightly smaller treads when we extended upstairs because of space.

If you want the stairs to be less steep, the angle will be more shallow. For the angle to be more shallow, the length of run will be longer (or the stairs not reach the first floor!). The longer run will, presumably, eat into the ground floor space... even if there is room.

There's a basic staircase builder tool at stairbox.com. (I've never used them, so that isn't a recommendation). Although I suspect you don't want a DIY stair, it'll help you work out the dimensions involved.
