can't keep thyme?
oregano, rosemary, lavender, chives, parsley, lemon balm, mint, coriander all thrive like weeds, healthy with minimum input year after year.
but I ALWAYS kill thyme (grown from seed/bought from garden centre/ordered in from plant supplier/all types), which is a shame because I love thyme .
my daughter (4) has managed after some very slapdash sowing and overwatering
to grow a tiny but robust-looking thyme seedling, and I don't want to kill it
I had basically assumed that my tiny wet welsh garden is just too generally damp? soooo.... I could grow it indoors, how best to nurture it?

Thyme is a plant from the Med so it likes to be treated mean. Best thing to do is grow in pots either on the patio and sheltered during winter or inside. If you want to grow it in the border add some grit to improve drainage but depending on your garden (mine is clay so always water logged) this may not be enough.
Cut it often otherwise it ends up very woody.
I must say I'm the same with coriander, my most used herb and I cannot get it to survive more then two weeks before it either dies or gets infested with aphids.0 -
thanks,
I'll be mean! (never got to the point where "woody" might be a problem though - usually dead way before that point!).:AA/give up smoking (done)
