Car insurance renewal.

I'am with admiral car insurance (single policy) which runs out next month, I'm just wondering if they are likely to renew my policy automatically and take out the charge direct debit, has this happened to anyone?

    Yes.

    You will have agreed to this when taking out the policy.

    If you don't want to autorenew you need to take action.

    They should tell you what to do when they send you the renewal cost.
  • 'Phone them up or write advising you don't want to "auto renew".
    No, it hasn't happened to me because I always tell them not to auto renew either when taking out the policy or a few weeks prior to the renewal date.
  • Almost all insurers will do this and say it's to protect you from not being insured if you let the insurance lapse. Shoddy reasoning!

    I work for an insurance company and it's about a 50-50 split on those who love auto renewal 'stops me having to worry' and those who hate it. And you would be surprised at the number who let insurance lapse!! and then panic when informed they aren't insured

    Admiral will auto-renew. You normally cancel once their renewal quote comes through if you don't want to renew.

    The nonsense of the 'stops me forgetting' excuse is, it also means you are accepting the renewal at any cost they think fit to charge. I always ensure any auto-renewal element is rejected - but for the first time in 10 years, my renewal is £30 LESS than it was last year.

    Go figure! :)

    Maybe you have reached that certain level of maturity where you are seen as a better risk. Make the most of it for the next few years as the next level of maturity seems to make it start to go up again

    Even though the renewal has gone down, you can still expect to find a cheaper deal by shopping around.
  • Most companies do auto-renewal.
    I'm with Diamond (same company as Admiral), they sent me an email saying my renewal for the year would be £800ish, did a quote myself and found Admiral for £500!! Cheeky beggers!

    Admiral decided to auto renew my policy, problem was that they "forgot" about previous claims made on a company car(advised them at the time of two no fault incidents) then decided that we owed 70 quid for the last two years, on top of an inflated price, and guess what they took it wothout warning. 8 phone calls to admiral, 7 sets of insurance documents, and finally yesterday a letter stating we owed 1200 quid! As it happens, because of the job I do, my calls are recorded, and I have checked the incidents were declared. Funny that admiral say that they "forgot to ask". Honestly I am at my wits end with this company. Last time I phoned they offered free extras to make up for the inconvenience then charged for them! I really would say avoid them if you can. They are a nightmare, and the left hand has not got a clue what the right is doing. (asked me to prove no claims, when I have been insured with them for years!!!!) Told them that my insurers had sent my no claims on a renewal letter, they said scan and send that, then I got a phone call to advise that they needed info from my current insurere not them. ehh one in the same! I have lost the plot with this company, and will not be insuring with them again.
