Trying to do the Barclaycard shuffle - help needed!

Hello friends!

Around 6-8 weeks ago, I transferred £5000 off my Barclaycard credit card, as the 0% deal had come to an end.

Since then, I have had a balance of 0 with a limit of £5,100 on that card.

I have not yet been offered any balance transfer deals by Barclaycard, but I really would like to start shuffling as my other card deal runs out soon.

I know that they have the existing customer 6.9% (I think) for life rate if you phone and ask (the one that isn't advertised) but I'm still struggling to get it. I called them, and they just said "sorry there are no offers currently on your card".

Do I need to say something specific when I phone? Am I not doing something correctly to be offered this deal?

Or perhaps I'm just not eligible...

Any help would be really useful and greatly received.

If you check your account online and it says no offers available. This normally means you can't transfer a balance at any rate.

The availability of online offers changes all the time.

Having no available offers could be for several reasons as they get regular feeds from credit reference agencies. Something as simple as a large amount of available credit elsewhere compared to your income can affect it.

Some have threatened to close the account due to no offers and been offered something by retentions, but that's a gamble.

There are occasions where they won't offer it - if offers aren't appearing online and they won't give you them by phone, you'll just have to play the waiting game unfortunately - offers may start reappearing after a few months.

Other than that, your only option is to apply for a card elsewhere.

You need to use the passphrase "The monkey has no more spatulas in his briefcase". That will get you put through to the 6.9% dept.

Either that, or you're not eligible. Bcard won't be dishing out a guaranteed 6.9% to everyone - it would kill them.

Ring and ask to close the account. They either will or else they will put you through to retentions. If they close the account you are no worse off. Then you wait a couple of weeks or so and apply for a 0% BT elsewhere. Simples:)

Thank you, I'm going to do something pretty similar to this. I'm going to wait a couple of weeks though as I've just moved property and waiting 'til my electoral register is showing up on my credit check - I'm not sure it'll make a difference but we'll see.
