Mostly the relatively friendly shallow square ones, plus 2 long ones that stretch across the road - still fairly benign though as not too steep and not a rib cracking sleeping policeman as such - but 1 very stupid one (or effective I guess), you know, where they close one lane of the road and give priority to one direction. Always hold-up on the last one as it's a busy road in the mornings.
I'm surprised at how little people value their tyres round here as most people still bomb along at 30mph. Whereas I really slow down and just rumble over the bumps at 15-20mph.
Anyway judging by the way the traffic builds up behind me on this stretch, I am the best traffic calmer around
Seriously, if you don't slow down for these bumps you'll either ruin the inside of your tyres (dangerous blow-out potential on the motorway etc) or else ruin your shocks (depending on how you place your vehicle).
Just be glad they are marked. We found a source of amusement in Cairo, nice stretch of road where they could actually pick up some speed, nice big unmarked sleeping policeman, bigger than you get in this country. Let's just put it this way, cars held togeth with tie-wraps CAN fly!!!!What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
Honest John on speed bumps:Q
SPEED HUMPS. WHAT DAMAGE DO THEY CAUSE?A
Approximately 6' wide wide speed cushions cause the following damage:They break car road springs. They damage the inside shoulders of
car tyres
They damage and steering, sometimes leading to high speed crashes later in the vehicle's journey.
They cause 50% more pollution and fuel consumed due to slwoing down for them then re-accellerating.
They destabilise motorcycles and bicycles, sometimes throwing the rider into the path of another .They are particularly lethal to motorcyclists and cyclists when covered with leaves, and in adverse weather conditions such as snow, ice and heavy rain. They increase noise levels from vehicles slowing down then re-accelerating.
They damage vehicle sumps, wrecking and casing dangerous oil spillages. They prevent the passage of long vehicles such as hearses. They have caused elderly pedestrians to trip and break bones. They are concealed by snow. They prevent the use of snowploughs to clear snow.Full width speed humps and speed platforms cause the following damage:They break car road springs. They destabilise cars on corners, particularly in adverse weather conditions. They destabilise motorcycles and bicycles, sometimes throwing the rider into the path of another vehicle. They cause 50% more pollution and fuel consumed due to vehicles slowing down for them then re-accellerating.They cause tremors from heavy vehicles passing over them that damage adjacent walls and buildings.
They cause tremors that damage the sub-structure of the road. They increase noise levels from vehicles slowing down then re-accelerating.They damage vehicle sumps, wrecking engines and casing dangerous oil spillages. They prevent the passage of long vehicles such as hearses. They hinder the passage of emergency vehicles such as fire engines.Useful link:Another useful link:-0 -
Morning everyone
If we report all the AEs and they get removed then the number of thread contributors will drop alarmingly :rotfl: I've given up trying to work out who's who or trying to second guess why on earth posting in this way appeals to so many. Certainly past caring.
