Mmm difficult... up here Tablet is hard and fudge is soft!/QUOTE]
Maybe there are different recipes? I have a Scottish friend who makes tablet every Christmas (along with some other goodies!) and gives them out to friends for Christmas presents. It definitely looked and tasted like fudge to me! I have to admit to not being able to eat fudge - there's so much sugar in it that one piece gives me a chronic headache.
I often make tablet for people'sbirthdays at work and it's very popular but I always label it - danger contains dangerous amounts of sugar!
Tablet should be hardish but melts in the mouth and a totally different texture and taste to fudge (and psst it should never be made with marge!!)Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0 -

Well, I made a banana cake with cream cheese and honey icing and a chocolate malteser tray bake as I said.
I wrapped the banana cake up in greaseproof paper, folded up a bit fancy and tied up with plenty of ribbon and a label saying what it is. The traybake I cut into pieces, stacked them wrapped up in decorative cellophane, again tied with lots of ribbon and gift tags with the description on it.
They sold really quicklyAnd the lady running the stall said she could charge extra because they were so nicely wrapped up

Well I used to think the same about the marge thing and you can use butter in the recipe I posted but I have found there is more chance of it catching on the botton of the pan when its boiling for a long time.Although I must admit if it is for a special occasion nothing but unsalted butter and condenced milk will do!0 -
We have had to stop parents providing ANY HM food for anything after we had the whole of KS1 down with food poisoning after one Xmas party! (It was traced to HM sausage rolls). We've stopped having cake stalls too. Shame really!I Believe in saving money!!!:T

Well done you!
The only problem: you'll have a reputation now and will be expected to deliver year after year!I lost my job as a cricket commentator for saying “I don’t want to bore you with the details”.Milton Jones0 -

It's just that my dad always used to buy tablet at the church cake n candy stall and it often had been made with marge and the sugar hadn't been dissolved so it was all grainy and greasy so quite unpleasant!
I do find that it does catch a bit while boiling but as long as it's toffee sort of bits that come up and not burnt they quickly dissappear at the beating stage and add to the flavour! (It didn't used to do this when I made it in my mum's old pressure cooker pan, but it does now in a stainless steel pan) Any way as far as I'm concerned making tablet is always a special occasion! ( don't do it that much otherwise I'd be REALLY fat rather than just a bit fat!)Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0 -
this is the 2nd summer that our schools pfa has organised a cake stall on 1st sat of every month(maytil sept) they always sell out and often have people prerdering certain cakes weeks b4 hand.the same usual mums bake all the time but have recently sent out note to parents asking that if anyone who doesn't/can't bake and wants to help they can donate ingrediants for someone else to bake, this is going v well lots people donate regulary.we have a sign on stall saying we can't guarentee nut free enviroments/other allergies. and always ask if people who freeze cakes ahead of time to label there cakes saying so.homemade jam &lemon curd from one mum always goes v well as do foil tins of crumbles.Lead us not into temptation...
just tell us where it is and we'll find it....0
