I think you need to wait and see what they ask you. I would not lie about it, if asked you can explain you have passes in 3 of 4 and was unable to take the 4th part.

I have just been made redundant and am reading lots on here, and to be honest if anyone asks for my certificates I will be snookered, I am 58 and my 0 Level and CSEs were taken years ago and along those years have got lost. I will still put what I passed, if then asked for proof I will have to explain that I have no longer have them as I moved abroad which is true.

Experience also counts you know, my taking 0 Level History in 1969 really is not going to get me a job, but it will be added just the same.

Good luck and I would not worry too much.

    What exactly have you written?

    "Secretarial Diploma: A - Pass B - Pass C - Pass"?

If asked, simple say you passed 3 levels of a Secretarial Diploma.

If pressed further, say you where unable to complete the fourth part hence no certificate.
    Bad luck breeds bad luck.

    Damn I'm doomed.

We ask for all certificates the candidate has mentioned on the application. If genuinely lost we work on the assumption that spare copies can be obtained. Unfortunately these days competition is fierce and we can't take the risk that someone is trying to dupe us.

I used to write above on my CV and it never got questioned because it looked like I had the qualification but I never in fact said I did, I just omitted the part I didn't pass (which meant I didn't get the qualification overall)

On the application form, I have made a silly mistake by putting:

    Secretarial Diploma 1999 Pass

Therefore I will have to talk my way out of it without looking like a complete fraud. I don't even know why I did it to be honest, complete rush for an unexpected job application is my only (poor) excuse

You mean you missed off the detail of which parts you had passed.

I would never lie and say I had the qualification, I will of course explain the truth at interview - I am just worried I will already look bad and deceptive for putting it on the application form which couldn't be further from the truth as I am a really honest person.

I just wonder if I say confidently that I passed 3 of 4 whether they will overlook what I said on application form? I have the paperwork to say I passed the other 3 (which are the 3 main ones needed anyway, the 4th was a difficult/uninteresting part of the coursework and no-one in the class passed the course because of it)

Yes, the information was put in tiny boxes and so I just put in 'pass' rather than 'pass 3/4 modules' which is what I should have done really

As a recruiter there's nothing you could say that would prevent me from wondering what else you may have lied about (inadvertent or otherwise). "I did it in a hurry" would be another nail in the coffin, for obvious reasons.

If the qualification is not significant and you had other more relevant experience then I would probably continue with the interview, but you can get that your references would be fully checked out before a job offer was made.

I certainly won't be using the 'I did it in hurry' excuse to them. I will just explain that I passed 3/4 and so that is why I put it on the form especially since the 3 parts are very relevant to my career and it has never stopped me getting jobs in the past. I will also explain how I meant to re-take fourth part but moved away. This was all 14 years ago.

My references will be excellent, I know that much. Without jinxing myself, I have managed to get every job I have ever gone for bar one that was earmarked internally within the company (they rang me and told me they were really sorry about it and I would have been an ideal candidate and they felt bad for me having to attend interview when they knew it was always going to someone else but legally they had to advertise externally)
  • You've got a certificate with 3 of the module's on that say you passed them.

Can't you just say that you filled it in and when you typed on the form you added

'Diploma - pass 1999 - '3 SUBJECTS' at the end - and you didn't realise that that hadn't come through on the application form - was it online where basically you submit it at the end? Or was it one you saved and could have changed?

1 part of the course is nothing - when you look at your experience.

Is the company a public company like the health board or a local college - or is it a private company.

Truthfully - I would play dumb that you didn't realise it wasn't a pass seeing as you'd manage to pass 3 of them. I'd really not try to even bring it up and if they do - look a bit shocked as if you'd more or less passed it and didn't even think it was of any consequence.

It's not like you're actually faking a certificate is it?
