Sorting download folder by most recently downloaded

For a while now, my download folder has sorted my downloads with recently downloaded files at the top, then files downloaded last week, last month, etc. Not sure why but yesterday I turned on my computer and now all files are listed alphabetically. For the life of me I can't figure out how to go back to the old sorting system. What to do?

Sorry, I wasn't clear, I know how to sort them by date modified. What I used to have was files sorted in groups, each with a headline like 'recently downloaded', 'downloaded last week', downloaded last month', etc.

Just figured it out, it's View -> Group By -> Date. Problem was my menubar had gone missing so couldn't find that option.

Whenever the menubar is hidden just hit the Alt key on the keyboard and it should appear
