Odd postage price

I received a parcel today - a small one, which I had to sign for. It had the red recorded label on it. It's quite lightweight parcel around 300g

I was quite surprised to see the postage on the printed label was £2.19. A small packet weighing 300g should cost £2.60 without the recorded cost. How can it be so cheap? I'm a bit confused. If it's possible to send cheaper I want to know how to do it myself.

Large letter rather than parcel seems to fit the bill.

The seller has access to a franking machine. It would cost you £2.50 to send that package yourself.
