Housing List

My Boyfriends mother currently lives in Northern Ireland. She's getting old and we are getting worried about her being there on her own so we are trying to get her moved over here.
She's over for a few days so we went with her to the council to get some information.
We tried to register her for the housing list but the lady we talked to said that my boyfriend needed to write a letter stating that he would be taking care of her once she moves over here.
This is fine but I'm not really sure how to word the letter does anyone have any idea?

Berfore you write anything:
Does mum live in a council proprety in NI?
Do you have room to 'take care' of her on a permanent basis? Would she be considered 'homeless at home'?
Not sure the advice is in your/her best interests. Maybe speak to ShelterOpinion, advice and information are different things. Don't be surprised if you receive all 3 in response.0 -
That seems a really strange thing for the council to ask for. There is no requirement for anyone to confirm that they have access to care before registering for social housing!
If you live in England you don't necessarily have to visit your local council, you can usually register on the social housing list online. Search for your county and 'Homechoice' or 'social housing register'. Your boyfriend will count as his mum's local connection and so she should be perfectly entitled to join the register, although it might still take many months for her to be housed.
Hope you get it sorted0
