I think my TV just died

My TV - (Sony 28" Widescreen KV28FX20 CRT) has just gone blank and is making a clicking/ticking noise from the rear of the TV set. I can't remember if it went "pop" or not.
Has anyone seen/heard of this before?
Can it be repaired easily? Estimated cost?
Or should I be looking for a replacement/new TV.
The set was 8 years old, but it was great - never a problem and frankly I don't think too much of the picture quality on the new LCDs (too grainy for my liking).

First of all, unplug it. It's difficult to say what's up with it, but it's possible the tube has let go. There are also HT circuits/transformers that can go fizz which might be fixable. Can't really be much help without looking at it.
If it was me, it would be an excellent excuse to get a new TV.

Hi, don't forget your local Freecycle group may be able to help you with a second hand TV (or anything else for that matter). These Groups have been set up all over the UK to help lessen infilling of rubbish tips and recycle stuff. You must offer something to recycle first and then you can request or offer to take something advertised all for Free!0

Recycle or second hand would probably be cheaper than paying for it to be fixed. Lots of people with new LCDs nowadays wanting to offload their old CRT's.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

Thanks I'm getting some estimates and also checking out ebay, freecycle etc.0

Basic thing to do first is check the fuses.
There's the usual one in the plug, and there's usually a quick-blow fuse just inside the TV where the mains cable goes in.
If you're confident about taking the back off (carefully, as Zahc sys, there's a lot of voltage in the back if you go past the transformer).
It should just pop out and they are normally clear so you see if it has blown.
They are cheap to buy, just make sure it is the quick-blow type if it needs replacing.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:
