Hi
I've just given my Acer Laptop a second 512mb ram.
I upgraded from 256m by adding 512mb as a second ram and have now removed the 256m altogether and added the second 512mb ram.
I was not sure if it would make much difference, but I'm running Vista and thought it may help.
To be honest it does not appear to have made a difference, it runs fine with no problems.
Although I am happy with everything and all is well, I just feel I could get the system working better but I'm not sure where.
Many thanks
Martin

Are you saying you originally had a total of 512mb and now have 1gb?
This certainly should have made a difference and especially with Vista (would have thought it struggle with 512mb)
Have you chevked the RAM is showing as installed?
How old is the ACER and what is its stated maximum RAM?

Hi
The Laptop is only about four months old.
The new ram is showing as it now says a figure just over 1gb.
The Laptop came fitted with 256mb, then I added a
512mb ram. I then installed Vista and to my suprise it ran really well, no problems at all.
I have read alot about Vista and thought it would be better to remove the 256mb ram and change it for another 512mb, giving me over 1gb in ram.
There is nothing wrong at all with the system, I'm really pleased, but I thought by adding the extra ram I would see some difference, but I see no difference at all.
On the experiance rating I only get 2.2, which accordingly to what I have read is fairly low, but other than changing the graphics card, I do not know how to get the rating higher, well without major modifications.
The laptop is only used for word documents and general browsing, although I may get the odd game but I'm not sure which to buy, as yet.

Hi
I now have two 512mb ram cards in place, there are only two slots, otherwise I would have left the 256mb in as well.
Thanks

Martin, Are you running Vista Home Basic or Premium? My guess is the former as it does not include some of the more resource intensive features, but maybe not!
Apart from the OS, if you are only using it for web surfing, email the odd letter etc I would expect it to be fine. If you start to use more intensive applications such as graphics etc then it may not be so quick.
More RAM at current prices is always good, anyway I am sure one day it'll come in more useful!
Cheers

Hi
It's Vista Business.
It was a free upgrade from XP, when I bought the laptop.
I was a little worried about the tiltle "Business" as it only for private use.
From what I have read it is the same as XP Professional.
Thanks for the replies, I just wanted to make sure I did not have to do anything else to make the most of the extra ram.

Martin, sounds quite impressive running business OK with less then a gig. I am sure you will get the (1gb) benefit of it though.
Good luck
