key meters
I've been on electricity & gas key meters for about 12 months with EDF for a debt to both was around £500 on each.
I got a letter from them about 6 months ago saying that they were due to be repaid around Jun/Jul.
To be honest I'm not very good at reading the bills, but I must be nearly there now.
I'm going though about £25 electric a week & about £35 gas a week, but I think that £5 of the gas goes off the debt.
My house is detached, wife, 3 kids etc, showers not baths.
Any advice appreciated.
Stephen.

If the debt is under £500 you can switch supplier.
You can check the debt on the meters by looking at screens S (electricity) or 27 (gas)0 -
Thanks SwanJon, i'll check it tonight.Managing my own debts & it's slowly looking better by the month. :T0

£1000 debt + twelve months (or even fifteen months) + £5 per week (or £10 per week) does not equal "must be nearly there now"!!!0

£5 per week is only paying off £260 a year. Is that £5 per fuel, or just £5 for gas? So it'll take you 2 years at that rate to clear the gas debt.
Seriously, if you don't even know what you are paying off, then how can you begin to manage the debt? I suggest you speak to EDF and read the meter, as you can't possibly clear that debt by the summer at £5 or £10 per week.
Why are you using so much electricity? Since you are on dual fuel, you are presumably using gas for heating and hot water. If so, your electricity usage should be vastly less than £1,300pa-that's more than the total average dual fuel bill. It should be £3-400 per year-not £100 per month! Even if £20 of that is debt, it' still twice what would be expected.
Post your annual kWh figures and proper advice can be given. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Dont know on the electricity front, i'll dig out the figures & post.
I've swapped all the bulbs for energy eff ones, the only thing I can think of is the washer (3 kids) on every other day.Managing my own debts & it's slowly looking better by the month. :T0 -

The washer on a cleaning cycle won't use a massive amount of electricity, but if you use it as a drier, it will.0 -
OK i'm finally down to no debt on the gas/electricity meters.
So from now on i'm only paying for what I use.
Whats my next move, can I move from these meters now & get back onto quarterly billing ??Managing my own debts & it's slowly looking better by the month. :T0 -

See posts #2 & #3 from April.
You'll probably struggle to get credit based on what you have posted.
This MSE article explains how the major suppliers treat requests to move from a PPM to a credit meter.

My advice would be to keep the prepayment meters but scout around for the cheapest supplier, preferably via quidco.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0
