All accounts will calculate interest on a daily basis. How frequently do you want the interest to be paid out of the account?

    The two most popular are:
    1) ICICI HiSave (6.05% AER)
    2) Landbanski ICESAVE (5.95% AER)

Both of them pay out on a monthly basis, even if interest is calculated daily and you can access your money whenever you wish with no penalties.

Between the two I would go with the ICESAVE because of the ease of opening and operating the account (no general issues, or delays or mistakes, as has been reported insted for the HiSave account...).

I opened an Icesave account last year. No problems in opening and on the couple of occasions I have needed to phone them have found them to be very friendly and helpful. For the sake of .1% (£1.60 on 2K for the basic rate tax payer) I would thoroughly recommend them. They also have a rate guarantee to exceed the BoE rate by 0.25% until 1 October 2009. The only downside is the £250 minimum however, with 2K this should not be a problem.

The headline 5.95% Icesave rate is for interest paid annually. They haven't published the rate for monthly yet..
Other than I've heard the Icesave online interface is better than that of ICICI's, I can't see the advantage of Icesave...

I opened an account with ICICI last year but found them generally unhelpful & difficult to deal with. I transferred my savings to Icesave & have found them to be efficient & helpful.
