    Its strange that they are asking for both as its different ends of the IT spectrum really. As others have said ITIL is a best practice/delivery framework and is normally undertaken by business analysts. (BAs).

    Now BAs typically work closely with the business in defining requirements and aren't expected to be that technical. On the other hand if you go the SQL route then you will be in a development role and not really need ITIL.

    It really depends what path you choose. There *are* technical BA jobs but you will find that you get categorised in one or the other. That's my experience in 20 years of freelancing.
