toilet seat

Mornin All,

I bought a "soft close toilet seat" through Amazon two years ago,

Which at first we were pleased with, it has since become stained under the seat, the stain which we cant move with any amount of cleaning also the quick release chrome buttons have turned green and wont work anymore.
Wrote to the supplier and were told by them to take the matter up with the manufacturer which I don't think is our responsibility.

They also said if we had kept the seat clean it should still be in perfect condition, my partner was pretty put out by this comment as she is a clean- a -holic!

It's not the cost of the seat, it's the fact I think it should have lasted longer than two years

Any advice would be appreciated.

We also have a soft close toilet seat, from Homebase though. Ours has also become stained underneath the seat, I also clean it regularly and can't see how its got stained underneath like that, as surely men lift it up and don't pee up the back of the seat? It would totally miss the toilet if they did that! The soft close also stopped working after about a year. TBH we didn't pay much for the seat, so have just put it all down to cheap products, you get what you pay for etc. We tend to see toilet seats as consumables and do change them quite a bit, as they usually brake at the bolts where they attach to the toilet bowl.
Wouldn't hold out for the maunfacturer doing much though. Also after 2 years I think you do deal with the manufacturer not the supplier.
  • Was the seat a Roper Rhodes Neutron by any chance?
  • Thanks for replies.
Your right about the make "Will"
Manda, your right about us blokes lifting the seat, but how does the stain appear where it does, I don't need an answer, it just does.
    Thanks to all.

  • I bought one of those last week, I can't post links, but Google for
    Roper Rhodes Neutron guarantee

On their page they state "Lifetime guarantee against seat breakage and hinge corrosion."

So if I was you I'd just have a chat with the manufacturer. Whether the quick release mechanism counts as part of the 'hinge' I don't know. But it certainly sounds like you've got some corrosion. They are a UK company with a normal UK number (01225 303 900), so I reckon it'll be pretty easy to talk to them.

I'd be interested to hear what happens, as I guess we might be doing the same in a couple of years :-)
  • I would contact the supplier still then they know their product isn't that good and change it also making a complaint will help someone in the future as they won't have the same problems because manafacturer will change the product design. Also they might explain to you why it stained and might even give a solution.
  • The supplier will probably remain your point of contact for the return, but if they want you to talk to the companies technical department about the problem then I'd just do that. The company will know far more about their toilet seats than the supplier. There's no point in creating an needless chain of Chinese whispers.

The chances are the company will say "We'll replace it, give the supplier xxx as the RMA number and send it back to them please."
  • Re the get what you pay for I have a Duravit soft close seat. £50 odd quid if I remember.

Mine has also stained and I can see why. Its the very edge of the seat underneith at the front and the plastic if you feel it is slightly rough, so I guess anything getting on the rough bit penetrates and stains.

I've tried using a bit of neat bleach but its a really awkward place, very annoying.

Been onto manufacturer, there is a lifetime guarantee on the seat, we were told to take the seat to a local supplier for replacement.

    Good service.

I bought one of these on the strength of the reviews on Amazon - have been very impressed with it.
The quick release hinges make it easy to remove to clean the seat, hinges and the bowl.
Of course, if you don't clean it for ages the seat, bowl and hinges will get manky - it isn't self cleaning !

Although we are very very old we do realise that there is nothing in this world that is self cleaning.
