What's the crash? Does it boot at all?
What operating system are you using?0 -
Why do Packard Bell want £40 for a startup disk? What type of startup disk are you talking about?
Most startup disks, drivers and utilities are downloadable from the manufacturers web site for nothing. If you want a basic startup disk you can create your own in Windows.
I'm quite curious about this as I have to sort all this sort of stuff out for a living, although i've never come across Packard Bells in an office environment. They seem to be almost exclusively for the domestic market.0 -
Packard Bell pc's are usually supplied with a start up disck & a set of Master disks. I've had 2 Packard Bell machines in the past & both were supplied with these. This is probably what the £40 Packard Bell are quoting is for. Perhaps you haven't had your machine from new & the previous owner didn't pass these onto you?
There is (or used to be anyway) an independent forum on the Packard Bell Europe site, where you can get some good advice from other Packard Bell owners, so if you don't find what you're looking for here then give that a try. My computer knowledge isn't great so I can't offer you any other advice, sorry. It may perhaps help you get more advice here if you post your query on the computer techie board on this forum. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
A short term measure is to remove hard drive and put it in a friends machine as a second drive and at least you will be able to get your photos and data off the disk and perhaps written to a CD so that you never lose them again. You need to have a little bit of knowledge to do this but it is not as scary as some people make out.
Something I have learned, the hard way, is always back up your files, data, photos etc because of what has happened to you will happen to everybody at some time.I am not always right,
But I am never wrong !!0
