UK Car insurance risk map?

Hi,

I'm in the process of moving to London and was wondering if there's a car insurance risk map? I know there are several post code risk lists but it would save me a huge amount of time if anyone knew if one of these had been compiled into a map.

Thanks

If you google, car insurance high risk postcodes, there is plenty of information online. One site Car Insurance Explained, has a list of postcode risk ratings.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

Very much appreciate the help, but as mentioned, I'm already aware of the postcode lists. I was wondering if there was specifically a map available as I could aim my property search at areas with lower car insurance. A map would be much easier to work with than a post code list.

    Thanks

Each insurer has their own ratings and whilst you will find some commonality each is unique. Rating engines are closely guarded secretes in most cases and so you will rarely find anything other than people's best guess being publically available
  • Fair enough.

That certainly explains why I was having so much difficulty. Back the the old fashioned way of finding properties I like and then getting an insurance quote.

Still, at least I don't have to ring round companies any more :)

They have a list of Aviva's postcode ratings for Aviva MOTORCYCLE insurance from about seven years ago.

Not really relevant and vastly out of date
  • You can find maps of where there are lots of claims and so you'd expect insurance to be more expensive there. London tends to be a big red blob of claims and expense I'm afraid. Google around for "motor claims map" and see what comes up

It will depend on your car also.

One company may have a higher claim rate with Vauxhalls in those postcodes. Another company may have higher claims with Ford's.

Until you try every postode with every car make and model you will never know.

Bit like the group rating for cars. Its sometimes cheaper to insure a car thats 6 or 8 groups higher. Insurers obviously have more claims for those cars.

Do you mean the site to find out crimes in the local area ?

If so then google police crime maps, the site will break down the reported crimes ino various categories eg vehicle crime.
  • No I meant the claims maps the insurance regulators put out which show where claims are concentrated. Some claims will be for theft and criminal damage to vehicles (which will appear in the police statistics) but most claims are "I crashed into some guy and now he has a sore neck", and the cops generally don't care about those unless they can nick someone for driving without insurance
