Cheaper Energy Loophole

Has anyone heard of Spark Energy? I've just signed up with them for dual fuel via their website https://www.sparkenergy.co.uk. They promise to be cheaper than the "big 6" but the good bit (and the bit they don't publicise) is that if you type "saver" in the reference code field they give you 15% off their standard rates. I heard of them through my friends letting agent as they seem to specialise in supplying tenanted properties, not seen them on any of the switiching engines.:money:

It would appear Spark Energy are based in Edinburgh.
You live in Edinburgh.
You have apparently just joined Spark Energy – why?
You have just joined MSE and this is you first post to tell us about this firm.
Would it be cynical of me to suggest you might be connected with this firm and posting here to advertise?
From what I can see of the website it doesn’t give a tariff??0 -
There is no pricing information on it?. very sparse.
I dont think anyone would be interested unless they can see what they getting.
Do you have pricing by any chance?

You can only pay by dd, so no good for prepayment, quarterly billed, payment card or fuel direct customers. It does say they guarantee they will be cheaper than the 'big 6', but I can't find if it includes online tariffs. If it does, then they may be very good. If they don't, then not so!
As mentioned above, shame they don't publish their rates...0 -
That's right, I do live in Edinburgh, the letting agent I rent my flat through is based here and they told me Spark Energy is their preferred supplier. I thought I was getting a good deal because the agent let slip that signing up on line was cheaper by using a reference code she'd been given.
I didn't actually ask for tariffs.0 -

Isn’t signing up for something without knowing the prices a little naïve?
I would wager that it will be possible to beat their prices by shopping around.0 -
hmmm, I guess so but if they're cheaper than the "big 6" then I'm happy. At least I was able to get through to speak to somebody without having to sit on the phone for an age. I'm going to check out their tariffs anyway.0
